Penn State Major Nittany Lions Team Mascot

In 1904 At a baseball game against Princeton, Penn State’s team, Mason and other members showed a statue of Princeton's famous Bengal tiger. Since Penn State lacked a mascot, it stated that "fiercest beast of them all," who could overcome even the tiger, Mason replied creating an instant fabrication of the Nittany Lion.

Penn State continued to beat Princeton that day. Over the next few years, there was never any official vote on the adoption of Mason's "Nittany Lion" won such great support among students, fans, and alumni.

An ordinary mountain lion or cougar is what The Nittany Lion essentially is. By attaching the prefix "Nittany" to this animal, Mason gave Penn State a unique symbol, from that point no other college or university would claim this trademark.

NCAA National Collegiate Athletic Association Division

The school mascot is the Nittany Lion. The intercollegiate athletics logo commissioned in 1983. The Big Ten Conference is where Penn State calls home, and they participate at the (NCAA) National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I (FBS) Football Bowl Subdivision level for most sports.

The school is in the top one percent of all universities worldwide as a public research institution, with access to expert faculty, sports facilities, and amazing academic experiences, Penn State offers a top-tier education and sports.

Expectations remain high for the Penn State program heading into the 2019 season. James Franklin’s Nittany Lions must replace several key veterans, including quarterback Trace McSorley, tailback Miles Sanders, offensive linemen Ryan Bates and Connor McGovern, cornerback Amani Oruwariye and defensive linemen Shareef Miller and Kevin Givens.

Still, the current Penn State group features some athletic players capable of producing stellar campaigns.
